Toppers of JEE Advanced rooting for BTech computer science course in IIT Kanpur, Mumbai and Delhi

KANPUR: The commencement of online choice filling for choosing a particular BTech branch and the IIT has revealed that pursuing BTech computer science is the first choice of the top rankers of JEE Advanced.
Further,stuyding computer science in IIT-Kanpur, Mumbai and Delhi is the first priority of the toppers. The online choice filling is to be done on the website of Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JOSAA).This process began on June 24 and will go on till June 28. The first round of seat allotment would be declared on June 30. After this, students will come to know about the BTech branch they would be getting in the IIT.
TOI spoke to the top rankers of JEE Advanced of Kanpur zone to learn about their preference for IITs and the particular branch of BTech course. Pravar Deep Singh who had scored AIR 113 and emerged as the city topper in JEE Advanced, while talking to TOI, expressed his choice of studying computer science course in IIT-Mumbai followed by IIT-Kanpur and IIT-Delhi. He said that he had also filled his choice of studying Electrical engineering in IIT-Mumbai followed by IIT-Kanpur and Delhi. But, he was hopeful that he will get computer science course keeping in view his decent rank.
Vibhor Porwal who got AIR 120 and who was also the second city topper and a rank holder in IIT-Kanpur zone, said that his preference is to study in computer science department of IIT-Kanpur followed by IIT-Mumbai, IIT-Kharagpur and IIT-Delhi. Vibhor also said that he was hopeful of getting computer science branch in IIT-Kanpur. "Computer science department of IIT-Kanpur is the best among all the IITs and therefore, I would like to study here. The result of the seat allotment would be known on June 30", he said.
Gagandeep Singh, another topper who had bagged AIR 321 and was the third city topper said that he wants to pursue Electrical engineering course from IIT-Kanpur. Gagandeep Singh said that his third preference is for computer science and engineering course from IIT-Kanpur as he is more interested in pursuing BTech Electrical Engineering.
Neelesh Verma who had bagged AIR-1 OBC-NCL (Non Creamy Layer)-PWD (Person With Disability) category too said that he wants to study computer science course. He said that he has given IIT-Mumbai and IIT-Kanpur as his first and second choice for pursuing Computer Science and Engineering course. He said that he wishes to be a scientist after completing BTech computer science programme. Neelesh who has an orthopedic problem since his childhood said that he was hopeful of getting his preferred choice. Neelesh had fragile bone in his right arm and has only three fingers in his right hand but he learnt writing from left hand and had excelled in the exam.
But experts said that BTech computer science course over the years has become the most preferred course as it fetches hefty salary packages to the students. Also the boom of the IT sector is prevailing because of which the students have a liking for the CS department. Moreoever in the past one decade, computer science course of IIT-Kanpur has emerged as the preferred course among the students. It is due to this reason that the top rankers wish to study in this department of IITK.
The online choice filling will ensure filling of 10,575 seats in 23 IITs across the country of which 827 seats exist in BTech first year of IIT-Kanpur.
