Here is good news for school and college students interested in learning how to play musical instruments - they will get an opportunity to learn music from experts from the police department.

Mysuru: Here is good news for school and college students interested in learning how to play musical instruments - they will get an opportunity to learn music from experts from the police department.
Mysuru Police Band authorities have written to the education department to allot them time to teach music to the members of band troupes in different institutions.
"Mysuru Police Band authorities have been directed to teach music instruments for school and college students by police top brass in Bengaluru following a directive from the Prime Minister's Office," said KARP Mounted Company chief Siddaraju.
Police will train the school band troupe members in playing various music instruments and organize competitions between them to develop interest in music. Siddaraju told STOI that their personnel will train students in discipline to be followed during parade by band troupe and how to play music instruments.
Mounted company DCP Siddaraju said that they have communicated about conducting free music classes to students to education authorities and awaiting their reply to start classes. "Interested schools and colleges - both private and government - may contact our office on Narasimharaja Boulevard opposite Karanji Lake for information," he added.
"We are happy to allot a time for police for the purpose," said DDPI H R Basappa. Almost all high schools in the district have students band troupes. Mysuru has about 232 government high schools.
Mysuru Police Band, Karnataka's only police band, has its headquarter in Mysuru.
Mysuru Police Band has a long history. It was earlier known as Palace Band (Indian Orchestra and English Band) as it was set up during the period of then maharaja Nalwadir Krishnaraja Wadiyar. The Palace Band was integrated with Karnataka Police Department in 1951, and was rechristened Mysuru Government Orchestra and later in Mysuru Police Band.
The band troupe personnel perform during government events, Dasara celebrations, Mysuru Palace programmes, police sporting events and to greet VVIPs.
