Vadodara: One of the two accused in Parul University rape case - Bhavna Chauhan - was sent to judicial custody on Saturday. Chauhan, who was the rector of the girls' hostel where the rape survivor stayed, has been accused of taking the victim to the prime accused and founder of the university Dr Jayesh Patel.
After her arrest, Chauhan was granted a four-day police custody remand for her interrogation.
Subsequently, the remand was extended for one day on Friday. Chauhan was presented before Waghodiya court on Saturday by the local crime branch of Vadodara rural police after the remand ended and sent to Vadodara Central Jail.
During the remand period, the police recovered Chauhan's cellular phone besides gathering other details. The phone will now be sent to forensic experts.
Police sources said the statements of security personnel and others who may be able to throw light on the incident were also recorded.
Counselling of girl students of the university was also conducted by the committee of senior officers appointed to assist the probe.
Patel, meanwhile, was taken to Por primary health centre for medical examination on Saturday. Sources said the police may take him to Rajasthan that he is believed to have visited while on the run after the rape case was registered against him on June 11. It has come to light that the car in which Patel was travelling at the time when he was caught belonged to a relative who will also be questioned by the police.
