A 911 call reporting a possible home invasion in the 300 block of Swope Avenue on Friday morning led Colorado Springs police to open a hash oil investigation instead.
Sand Creek officers responded to the 9:22 a.m. call on June 24 only to find “a male subject who was walking around the location carrying a loaded shotgun,” according to a police report.
Officers detained the man without incident and determined he was under the influence of an unknown substance and “had called 911 due to his paranoia.”
During a search, officers discovered a suspected butane hash oil lab in a workshop attached to a multi-car garage. The equipment looked foreign to the officers, prompting them to call the Colorado Springs Fire Department and the Metro Vice, Narcotics and Intelligence Division.
Metro Vice detectives discovered that the people living at the property had been experimenting with extracting CBD oil from hemp plants. Detectives took samples of the plants and extracted oil for testing.
No arrests have been made in the ongoing investigation.
