Couple found murdered

A couple was found murdered at their residence in Tharamangalam here on Saturday. The police said that Kaveri (76) and his wife Palaniammal (70) were living in Thukampatti while their sons were living separately.

His elder son Selvam was running an iron scrap shop in the same area.

On Saturday, Selvam visited his parents and found them strangulated to death The bodies were sent to Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College Hospital. Fingerprint experts and sniffer dogs were pressed into service. The cause of the murder was yet to be ascertained.

52 sovereign burgled

Burglars on Saturday decamped with 52 sovereign gold jewellery, Rs.10,000, and a television from the house of Babu Venkatesan at TCM Colony in Kunjandiyur, Mettur, on Saturday. The occupants of the house had left for Chennai last Thursday. On Saturday, neighbours found the front door lock broken and informed him. Upon his return, Babu Venkatesan found an almirah broken and valuables missing. Based on his complaint, Karumalai Koodal police registered a case and are investigating.

Two killed in accident

Two persons were killed on the spot and one sustained serious injuries after their two-wheeler collided with a lorry on Salem – Harur Road here on Friday. The police said that Perumal (55) of Manjavadi of Dharmapuri district along with Mahendran (28) and Ramasundaram (31), a policeman in Chennai, were on their way to Harur.

While nearing Achankuttaipatti, Mahendran attempted to overtake a lorry, but was hit by another lorry coming in the opposite direction. In the impact, Perumal and Mahendran died on the spot, and Ramasundaram suffered serious injuries. Villagers damaged the windshield of the lorry and traffic was hit for an hour.
