From the futility of conducting the drive on the same stretch to nab those who drive under the influence of alcohol to restoring PRIDE (Police and Residents Association Initiative in District Ernakulam) and scientific relocation of the High Court and places of worship to asking the KMRL to clean up the mess along its corridors, there was no dearth of suggestions at the meeting of stakeholders on traffic called by Director General of Police Loknath Behera in the city on Saturday.
The meeting witnessed participants come down heavily on the police for their alleged failure to ensure proper enforcement. It was demanded that the police draw volunteers from the public to plug holes in enforcement. Footpaths were termed unusable, thanks to missing slabs and encroachments. There was also a demand for tapping the city’s rail and water transport potentials. A mechanism to ensure that injured persons are shifted from accident spots to hospitals during the golden hour was also sought at the meeting.
It was suggested that private vehicles stop services at Palarivattom and Vyttila and low-floor buses be operated as feeder services. The participants demanded that begging be banned at junctions. Besides, it was suggested that motorists be given 15 days to produce documents instead of issuing tickets during vehicle checking.
