JAMMU, June 25: Shamsheer Hakla Poonchi,a prominent and an intellectual Gujjar leader of J&K urged once more the Chief Minister of J&K Mehbooba Mufti to pass a bill in the ongoing session of Legislative Assembly to continue reservations in promotion of J&K Government employees belonging to Schedule Caste, Schedule Tribe, other backward classes, Resident of backward areas communities of J&K State.
Hakla said that every sphere of life, reservation is the need of the hour and is a necessity for Schedule Tribe, Schedule Caste, Other backward classes communities.
Hakla said in order to keep them with the employees belonging to above said communities, their reservation for promotions is an essential requirement.
Laying a specific stress on the matter, Hakla said the status of Schedule Tribe granted to the Gujjar & Backward Community on April 19, 1991 by the Govt. Of India has completed 25 years where the Govt. has not been implementing it in letter and spirit to give full benefit of Schedule Tribe status for the Gujjar & Bakarwal Community. The Gujjar & Bakarwal Community of J&K is still socially, educationally, economically and politically lagging behind and backward. Gujjar Bakerwal Community mostly resides in far flung hilly and mountain areas near forest and on the LoC. Indo-Pak. The needs and the problems of Gujjar and Bakerwals are of peculiar nature, that the culture and language of Gujjar and Bakerwal community is different and as such the community has a distinct identity.
