Major terror strike in Srinagar: 8 CRPF jawans killed, 24 injured in Pampore encounter

Two militants were killed and three CRPF jawans injured in an exchange of fire after the ultras attacked a paramilitary force contingent in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district today, police said.

Two militants and eight CRPF jawans were killed in an exchange of fire after the ultras attacked a paramilitary force contingent in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district today, police said. Preliminary reports suggest heavily armed militants laid an ambush near Pampore’s Frestbal area, around 30 km south of Srinagar, and opened fire on a CRPF bus.

A group of militants attacked the CRPF party near Pampore causing injuries to three CRPF personnel, a police official said.

In the retaliatory firing two militants were killed, he said.

9.30 pm: Two militants were killed as an encounter broke out between them and security forces this evening in Uri sector of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, police said.

8.55 pm: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday, strongly condemned the militant attack on Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Pampore in which eight defence personnel were killed, saying that such acts of violence were aimed at subverting the Government’s efforts to bring peace and prosperity to the state.

8.04 pm: 24 CRPF jawans injured

7.30 pm: The entire area has been cordoned off as security forces have launched a search operation and are combing the vicinity.

7.22 pm: The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) asserted that the two terrorists, who have been neutralized in the Pampore gun-battle in Jammu and Kashmir, appeared to be Pakistanis and were Lashkar-e-Taiba operatives.

7.20 pm: IG,CRPF says according to first hand information, both killed terrorists appeared to be Pakistanis and definitely from Lashkar and in all likelihood fidayeen.

7.18 pm: DG CRPF briefs Home Minister Rajnath Singh on the Pampore terrorist attack incident, DG will visit Pampore tomorrow.

7.15 pm: ‘CRPF jawans were returning from firing range practice when terrorists attacked, jawans retaliated strongly killing two terrorists,” ’ informs Rajesh Yadav, CRPF commandant.

7.10 pm: 17 CRPF jawans injured

The operation is on as two more militants are believed to be hiding in the vicinity of the scene of encounter, the official said, adding, the injured jawans have been rushed to a hospital.

This is fourth attack of militants in the Valley in the past two days. While three attacks were carried out in Sopore, one IED was defused in Srinagar.
