Transporters call off stir

Rohtak, June 25

The state transporters, who had threatened to go on strike from June 27, called off their proposed strike after the Haryana Government allowed the over-sized vehicles to ply on the state roads for one more year.

A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of the Automobile Carriers Welfare Association and Haryana Transport Minister Krishan Pawar here today.

As per rules, a vehicle longer than 12 metres is considered over-sized, and thus cannot be given fitness certificate by the government.

Pawar said the state government had given an additional one-year time to the transporters to reduce the size of their over-sized vehicles to obtain the fitness certificates.

“Last year, too, the government had extended its deadline for one year. This time again we are doing that to give more time to the transporters,” the minister said.

The Automobile Carriers Welfare Association, which had given a call for the strike, confirmed that the strike had been withdrawn.
