We are all tired of being given gyaan
A bad viral infection meant that Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari couldnt be in Chennai during the release weekend of her film Amma Kanakku, but says that the constant stream of congratulatory messages that have been coming her way over phone and on social media has made up for her bad luck. Whats heartening is that a lot of men are saying that they could relate to it, even though the film is centred around a mother-daughter relationship, says Ashwiny.
This included Amala Pauls husband, director Vijay who had called her and said, Welcome to the Tamil industry. Youve made a beautiful film.
Interestingly, she says that she was nervous and scared when she was asked to direct the Tamil version of the film even though she had directed the Hindi original Nil Battey Sannata. But Dhanush and Anand (L Rai) sir were persistent and convinced me that I knew these characters better, she adds.
Though the film revolves around a serious issue about how education is the backbone for progress, especially for women she did not want the movie to have a serious tone that gets everyone bored. Even I would walk out of such a film. We are all tired of being given gyaan. So, I decided that it should come across as a fun film even while putting across its points, she explains. Cinema is a medium that can create a difference in society, and Im happy that audiences are getting its message, signs off the director.
