GUWAHATI: The BSF has got its new airbase at the Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (LGBIA) here, adding to the central paramilitary force’s air support capabilities for its operations in Northeast.
With the hangar and aerodrome facilities, BSF said it would enable the force to undertake independent maintenance and flying operation of aircraft on short notice.
This would also facilitate emergency medical evacuation of paramilitary personnel.
Union ministry of home affairs has approved operation of three MI-V5 helicopters of Russian origin, from this airbase.
BSF officials said that the close proximity of BSF frontier headquarters at Patgaon here and the airbase is going to enhance the paramilitary force’s operational capability.
Prior to this airbase here, BSF had been operating aircrafts from New Delhi, Ranchi, Raipur, Agartala and Srinagar.
