Iceland striker Eidur Gudjohnsen relishing 'special' England clash

Eidur Gudjohnsen has said he is looking forward to Iceland's Euro 2016 game against England on Monday, adding that it will be "a little bit special."

Gudjohnsen, 37, played for Bolton, Chelsea, Tottenham, Stoke and Fulham in the Premier League.

And as he prepares to take on Roy Hodgson's team in the round of 16, the striker, who now plays for Norwegian club Molde, said Iceland had "a big connection to England in footballing terms."

Iceland, in their first-ever European Championship, finished second in Group F after winning one and drawing two of their three matches.

And Gudjohnsen, who came on as a substitute in the 1-1 draw against Hungary, told reporters: "I'm delighted to be here, like everyone else in the Iceland squad.

"To be facing England, I think it is fair to say, is a little bit special, because English football has had a huge influence on Icelandic football.

"And from when we grew up and for generations everyone in Iceland has supported a team in English football.

"We feel a big connection to England in footballing terms -- but I think the excitement lies more in the fact we are in the last 16 rather than who we are facing."
