Traffic near the Goodwood racing circuit was brought to a standstill after a serious crash near the entrance to the Festival of Speed on Saturday.

Roads around one of the main entrances to the annual motoring event were closed for five hours after a motorbike and car collided at 06:28 BST.

Queues stretched for several miles from Kennel Hill to the A27, compounding event-related traffic problems.

Sussex Police said the motorcyclist suffered serious injuries.

He is being treated at Southampton General Hospital.

Event marshals helped seal off other roads in the area while emergency services attended.

The road was reopened just before midday, but many visitors to the four-day event endured long delays.
