Belagavi starts several works under Smart City projec

Belagavi City Corporation (BCC) on Saturday launched several works as a part of Smart City project on the eve of completion to one year to the announcement of project by the central government.

BELAGAVI: Belagavi City Corporation (BCC) on Saturday launched several works as a part of Smart City project on the eve of completion to one year to the announcement of project by the central government.
Works were given start by the district in-charge minister Ramesh Jarkiholi in the presence of former minister Satish Jarkiholi, MP Suresh Angadi, MLAs Firoz Sait and Sanjay Patil and mayor Sarita Patil.

Speaking at the function organized at Basavaraj Kattimani Hall, former minister Satish Jarkiholi said he has dreamt to implement four flyovers in city in which two have been already planned, one near fort lake and another at Sanchayani Chowk. Besides, four railway over bridges have been sanctioned in city in which two have sanctioned due to efforts of MP Suresh Angadi. He said developments works have been done because of efforts made by all the leaders keeping aside party lines. “Our ultimate goal is highlighting Belagavi city on global map”, he said.
Minister Ramesh Jarkiholi called upon all party leaders to join hands for the development irrespective of party and caste. He said although the project is being taken under Smart City, the major financial contribution is being made by the state government.
MP Suresh Angadi and MLA Firoz Sait spoke. This before city corporation commissioner G Prabhu briefed about the project. He said there is need of project management consultant to make preparations for implementation of the works. He said nine consultant companies have been applied for the same, in which one will be finalized soon.
Works launched on the day are as following
City gas distribution network: It’s a project of Rs 272.80 crores will complete in five phases in next five years. The project is about creating infrastructure for supplying piped natural gas to around 50 thousand households.

Sewage Treatment Plant (STP): It’s a project of Rs 156 crores to be completed in next three years. The project is about constructing STP with 70MLD capacity along with allied works like outfall sewers and rehabilitation and road restoration.
Construction of modular public toilets: It’s a project of Rs 1.50 crores. Under the project 15 public toilets and six urinals will be constructed in different identified places across city.
Block and avenue plantation: It’s a project of Rs 7 crores. Under the project, plantation of trees comprising ornamental, fruit yielding, economically valuable, medicinal and sacred will be planted in city corporation and cantonment areas.
Agreement with BSNL: Belagavi City Corporation signed MoU with BSNL for creating WiFi hot spots in different places of city with more density and for introducing GPS facility to the garbage carrier vehicles of city corporation. MoU was signed between BCC commissioner G Prabhu and BSNL manager Deepak Dayal.
Inauguration of Smart City office: Belagavi Smart City Limited, the office to deal with Smart City project works was inaugurated at the city corporation’s AEE office in Tilakwadi.
