NASHIK: During the second mayoral election of Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC), MNS corporators Shobna Shinde (prabhag 35) and Nilesh Shelar (prabhag 36) switched their loyalties to Shiv Sena owing to which the divisional commissioner cancelled their posts.
The state election commission has begun preparing for the by-election of these two prabhags.
The dates of the by-election will be declared after the programme for the voters’ list is held in the second fortnight of July. The winners of this by-election will be able to serve only four months as the next civic election is due in early 2017.
“The state election committee has declared voter’s list programmes for 11 vacant posts in municipal corporations, zilla parishad and panchayat samiti. According to this, the programme for voters’ list in prabhag numbers 35 and 36 of NMC has been declared. The voters’ list for Vidhan Sabha election that will be declared on July 1 will be considered valid for this by-election,” said an official from the election cell of the NMC. “On July 16, the primary voters’ list will be declared. People can raise their objections and suggestions for this list by July 23. The final voter’s list will be published on July 30 after which the state election commission will declare the date of the by-election,” he said.
The posts of corporators Shelar and Shinde were cancelled by the divisional commissioner last February and had disqualified them from contesting election for the next six years.
