I’m not too old to be Meru Governor- Kiraitu Murungi responds to Peter Munya’s claim he should retire from politics

Meru Senator Kiraitu Murungi has rubbished Governor Peter Munya’s claim that he is not fi t for the governor’s seat because he is too old and should retire from politics.

Kiraitu, 64, said he was as energetic as ever, and was ready to ascend to the governorship in 2017, because Munya had largely failed to fulfil his election pledges.

“When we campaigned with Munya in 2013, we had said we will work together as elected leaders to transform lives in a big way, but Munya has spectacularly failed because he cannot show us any meaningful projects in wards,” Kiraitu said, adding that, “We challenge him to list all the projects he had done and the amount of monies used to do them.”

The former Imenti South MP charged that Munya went to Kakamega County and lauded Governor Wycliff  Oparanya, yet  “Oparanya is older than me.”

On his decision to dissolve the Alliance Party of Kenya (APK), one of the main causes of their fallout, Kiraitu said he has heeded calls made by President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto.

“President Kenyatta wants to foster national unity among all tribes. He is folding his The National Alliance and his deputy is doing the same with his United Republican Party. I also want to help in achieving unity and that is why I have parked the ‘Bus’ to help form the Jubilee Party,” he said and accused Munya of trying to spoil Jubilee’s votes by having a new party for the region.

“Residents are fully in Jubilee and we don’t want Munya’s party because it might spoil votes for Jubilee, and we as political leaders in Meru, are behind President Uhuru and his deputy.
