Govt policy lacks vision, says UDF

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Governor P Sathasivam's address to the state assembly lacked vision, the opposition UDF said here on Friday, even as the BJP opined it was a repetition of what has been said earlier.
Commenting on the policy address, opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala said it did not present any concrete solution for arresting the rising prices of essential commodities.

On the announcement that the liquor policy would be reviewed, the opposition alleged that the government was planning to change the policy to please bar owners.
Chennithala flayed the announcement that a new study would be conducted to review the strength of the more than a-century-old Mullaperiyar dam.
“What the state needs is a new dam,“ he said, adding that the new study would weaken Kerala's stand in the contentious issue.
“Even when the CPM assures that it stands by the assembly's unanimous resolution, the new decision signals that we are going to have a change in the policy,“ he added.
Chennithala claimed that 90% of the projects announced on Friday were initiated by the previous UDF government and the LDF failed in announcing any new project for improving basic infrastructural facilities.

Meanwhile, BJP state president Kummanam Rajasekharan expressed disappointment over the policy announcement, since it lacked anything new. “We have been hearing the same for the past few years,“ he said.
Despite the LDF government repeating that the state was facing acute financial crisis, there was not even a single mention of any new step to overcome the crisis.“The new government is still keeping a silence on the changes they are going to bring in the liquor policy,“ the BJP leader said.
Former government chief whip and independent MLA P C George took a dig at the governor's address, saying the same governor had praised the UDF government as a role model for the country in February last.
“He is now claiming that the people of Kerala voted against corruption and nepotism,“ George said.
“The practice of governor addressing the assembly should be ended. There is no point in the governor reading out the text prepared by the ruling front,“ he added.
