PIL in HC seeks awareness on ill effects of alcohol

Madurai: A public interest litigation before the Madurai Bench of the Madras high court insisted to spread awareness on evils of liquor consumption. Moreover, the awareness should be in the form digital display of pictures and films telling the ill effects of alcohol in front of Tasmac shops and bars.
On this petition, the court directed the government side to instruct government officials to hold talks on spreading awareness as the PIL sought and adjourned the case by eight weeks.In his petition, K K Ramesh of Madurai said, "The Tasmac shops have been functioning in front of schools, hospitals and religious institutions, which affects culture of Tamil society.
