Mandya: The residents of Kestur village, who had recently seen a leopard killing sheep, are scared to venture out to their agricultural fields. They're terrified they'll be attacked by big cats prowling around.

"The leopard didn't seem worried even when we surrounded it. We thought it would flee once it saw people. However, the leopard continued the killing spree and then disappeared. We're worried for our safety as leopards have been killing domestic animals over the past couple of weeks," said villagers.
People said the lackadaisical approach of forest officers in tackling the menace is not helping any one bit. "Had forest officers captured the leopard, we would not be living in terror. Now, the leopard has attacked sheep and other domestic animals. Is there any guarantee that people would not be attacked?" asked Naganna, a farmer.
Forest and police officers visited the village and assured Kempamma, who lost her sheep in the attack, that they'd provide monetary compensation. Officers assured farmers that the prowling leopard would be captured at the earliest.
