Aware that I had been discussing quite serious topics for the past few weeks, from sexual violence to marital woes, I was hoping to lighten up the mood a little this week and thank goodness, Nigerian actress Osas Ajibade showed up just in time!

Last week Genevieve Magazine’s latest issue made waves in the entertainment world with Osas with her impeccable pregnancy style on the cover in a chocolate Grey dress. Inside she glowed some more in a strapless bright yellow Toju Foyeh dress which hugged her killer curves in all the right places, showcasing the small but perfectly formed baby bump.

It is the Ajibade bump’s first official outing of course but we have been watching the gradual growth of the #Lamibun all thanks to Lami’s daily #Infanticipated posts on Instagram which the singer/songwriter shows off her amazing pregnancy style. The latest post from her baby shower last weekend showed Lami sporting a gold threaded black culotte jumpsuit and she looks as if she has not even put on any excess weight. Could it possibly be the #Fittobirthtopostbaby Pilates she’s also been vigorously sharing with her followers?

In another post yet, the lady with the baby on board oppressed us with gorgeous legs she showed off in a barely knee-length blue shirt dress paired with pink pumps? Whale on the waddle, hardly, Lami! Then there was of course the super sexy backless black dress – all big hair and bare footed by the front door… There were many more posts – in her signature high tops, jeans, shades and baseball top, and we got to share quite a few weeks of Lami’s nine-month journey to birth and what a stylish feed it made for on her Instagram.

Before Lami of course, there was Lola Maja Okojevoh – with both her pregnancies, the celebrity make up artist was the ultimate yummy mummy in flowing maxi dresses and cute ‘50s A—lines. She even did a pregnancy photo shoot pulling all these cool karate moves despite the big bump! The fabulous images were captured by Jide Alakija who beat me to the dream of photographing Lola’s bump.

And of course who can forget Toyin Lawani – not only did the fashion entrepreneur reveal her bump on the runway at Africa Fashion Week London 2013, but months later she also graced a magazine cover. Who can forget Toyin all regale and elegant in a houndstooth two-piece on the cover of Exquisite Magazine? Inside, Toyin was far more risqué with her baby bump and a fair bit of leg showing as she covered up in red silk.

Not too long ago, many women – afraid of ‘bad belle’ – were too scared to even whisper a word of their joyful news let alone stylishly showcase their baby bumps to the world. How times have moved and how fortunate are we to have these women share their fabulous journeys with us – every single stylish step of the way. They show us you can flaunt your figure – big belly and all – and rock six inch heels well into six months; they show us you can be sensual – baby bump, excess weight, stretch marks and all – and still flash a bit of flesh without looking cheap.

The downside? For those of us, who are patiently waiting to join the yummy mummy club, we no longer have an excuse to spend nine month waddling in frumpy frocks, stretch pants, tent-like tees and flat sandals as these women are mere proof whatever a woman can do, a pregnant woman can do better – and in six-inch heels too!
