Parvez’s murder is the third case of use of katta in East Division. In April 2015, Mahesh K. (38), attendant of Pragathi PU College in Kadugodi, shot dead 17-year-old Gouthami and injured another student after they complained about his behaviour to the management. Mahesh claimed to have purchased the katta from a labourer from Bihar.

A few months later, a construction labourer shot his friend over a financial row in Ramamurthy Nagar using a country-made weapon. He claimed to have got it from his home town in Madhya Pradesh.
