Our Wedding Story: Keeping it country in the country they both love

Dominique Fasano and Brendan Sullivan live in Texas but were determined to get married in Ireland

Brendan and Dominique, a lawyer and food blogger (PerchancetoCook.com), met in 2010 at law school in New Orleans, Louisiana and live in Houston, Texas.

Brendan, a corporate attorney from Boston, whose grandmother was Irish, and for whom "Ireland feels like home", is a member of the Irish Network Houston and plays Gaelic football for Houston Gaels GAA club.

"Half of Dominque's extended family lives in Europe so Ireland was the perfect middle-ground for our guests to join us," he explains.

"Dominique lived in Belfast for almost a year before the wedding and we had visited here several times. We couldn't have imagined having it anywhere else. Plus it allowed us to do our bachelor/ bachelorette parties in Dingle – our favourite town in Ireland."

On May 30th, 2016, the couple – joined by 10 bridesmaids and 10 groomsmen – married at Castle Durrow, Co Laois in a spiritualist ceremony.

“Our favourite thing was how welcoming and warm, figuratively and literally, Ireland was – there was much sun that week. We loved watching our guests, from so many parts of the world, totally fall in love with the country that we love. Since most of our guests joined us in Dingle, and all of them came to our rehearsal dinner in Kilkenny, they were able to see such different parts of Ireland.”

Brendan is the son of Bob and Suzanne Sullivan and the bride's parents are Dr John and Catherine Fasano.

US country singer Billy Gilman performed during the reception and the newlyweds' first dance was to Carla Bruni's Quelqu'un m'a dit.
