Dengue fever is spreading in the district with low-range areas reporting more cases on Friday. There were six more suspected cases of dengue fever on Thursday.

There were 94 confirmed cases of dengue so far this year. Health Department sources said the suspected cases under observation were twice this figure since the beginning of monsoon.

There was a high turnout of patients in hospitals. On Thursday alone, 565 patients sought treatment for fever.

District Medical Officer Rekha T.R. said health squads were visiting houses and office premises to create awareness on breeding mosquitoes which spread dengue fever.

She said that legal steps would be taken under the public health Act against those giving room for mosquitoes to flourish.

Public campaign

A public campaign was launched prior to monsoon to create awareness on the spread of the disease, she said. In areas affected with dengue fever, destruction of mosquito sources had been done by the health squads with public participation.

She said that enough medicines were stocked in public health centres and hospitals.
