BJP activists protest against shoddy construction work

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) activists staged a protest at the site of construction of a retaining wall along the bank of Lingadakalli rivulet near Saidur village in Sagar taluk on Friday. They alleged that the work was being executed in an unscientific manner.

Addressing the protest meet, ex-MLA Belur Gopalakrishna said that when the water level in Lingadakalli rivulet rises during heavy rain, the bridge across it, along the road that connects Saidur and Adaranthe villages, gets inundated. This in turn paralyses vehicular movement along this stretch.

The State government had sanctioned an amount of Rs. 85 lakh for the construction of a retaining wall along the bank of Lingadakalli rivulet to prevent flooding.

Mr. Gopalakrishna alleged that the terms and conditions in the contract, with regard to schedule and quality of work have been violated during execution.

Poor quality material

He further alleged that the low-quality construction material was used for the work.

“The work of laying the concrete bed and the construction of the wall has been executed in an unscientific manner. Owing to the poor quality of work, the retaining wall cannot endure the heavy flow of water in the rivulet during monsoon,” he said.

Members of the zilla panchayat Rajashekhar Galipura, R.C. Manjunath, functionaries of BJP T.D. Megharaj, Bhimaneri Shivappa and Adaranthe Chandrashekhar took part in the protest.
