Sector 22B faces water crisis, 1,800 families hit
More than 1,800 families in the sector have been facing severe water crisis for the last 10 days, and the residents are completely relying on private tankers.
Gurgaon: Residents of Sector 22B on Friday wrote to the MCG commissioner, alleging that only villagers and close relatives of municipal councillors are able to avail themselves of the service of water tankers arranged by the civic body. More than 1,800 families in the sector have been facing severe water crisis for the last 10 days, and the residents are completely relying on private tankers.
Residents have now threatened to hold mass protests if the water supply is not restored in the sector.
"Ever since our sector was handed over to the MCG, the condition of water supply has been worsening in the area. We are struggling to get water for residents. However, MCG councillors make tankers available only to their family members and friends," alleged Bhim Singh Yadav, president of RWA in Sector 22B, in his letter.
"Some MCG councillors are misusing their position eyeing votes since the civic elections are round the corner," he told TOI.
Such practice by MCG councilors, according to residents, has led to shortage of water tankers. "The residents have access to less number of tankers than that required. Also, councillors have been giving wrong information to the corporation about the number of tankers sent to the sector. For instance, a councillor claimed that 10 tankers were sent to Sector 22B on Friday, while we got only one tanker," Siddharth Gupta, a resident, said.
The residents said they will go ahead with mass protests against the civic body and councillors unless the water supply is not restored.
"Water supply in DLF area is restored within a day. But when it comes to our sector, the authorities don't seem to be bothered ," Meenakshi Dubey, another resident, said.
Despite repeated attempts to contact her, area councillor Monika Yadav could not be contacted for comments.
