Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Education Kadiam Srihari has said that the Karimnagar district ranked third in the Telangana State after Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts with high percentage of student enrolment in private educational institutions.
Absenteeism
Participating in a review meeting on the status of education in Karimnagar district here on Friday, Mr Srihari said that the enrolment of students of government schools was very low in spite of taking various measures. He attributed the low enrolment of students into government schools due to poor infrastructure, absenteeism of teachers and absence of monitoring besides craze for English medium education among the parents.
“We are making all arrangements by providing basic infrastructure, CC cameras and bio-metric system to monitor the performance of teachers and introduction of English medium education from first standard onwards,” he stated.
He directed the district officials and elected representatives to make surprise inspections of all schools to monitor the functioning of schools and check attendance of teachers.
Mr Srihari said that the State government was taking all measures for the strengthening of higher education and accordingly providing free education and distribution of books in Intermediate and also launch of midday meals from this academic year.
Development fund
Reviewing the performance of degree and polytechnic colleges in the district, he also called upon the legislators to contribute Rs 1 crore from their constituency development fund for development of educational institutions in their segment and Minister to allocate Rs 1 crore and promised to release Rs 3 crore per segment for providing all facilities in the schools.
Minister for Finance and Civil Supplies Etala Rajender said that they had decided to provide dual desks in all educational institutions at a cost of Rs 16 crore in Karimnagar district.
ZP chairperson Tula Uma, Karimnagar MP B Vinod Kumar, legislators G Kamalakar, P Madhukar, B Shoba, T Jeevan Reddy, MLCs N Laxman Rao and T Bhanu Prasad Rao, Collector Neetu Prasad and others were also present.
