Eight dead in accident

Eight persons died as a utility vehicle carrying 15 persons fell 200 metres off the road and landed near a gorge in Tehri district’s Akhori village, on Friday.

The vehicle was coming from Tehri’s Ghansali when the driver lost control near Akhori, Tehri Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Narayan Singh said.

The deceased include four women and four men, including the driver.

Seven others have been injured, six of whom have been admitted in a hospital in Ghansali. “One person was critically injured and was taken to a hospital in Dehradun,” Mr Singh said.

“The accident took place at around 3 pm. The enquiry is on and we are yet to find what really caused the accident,” Mr Singh said.
