Minister for Industries and Mines K. Taraka Rama Rao has directed the officials to prevent illegal transportation of sand with the help of mobile squads and an enforcement cell.

In a video conference with district Collectors and Mines & Geology officials on Friday, the Minister stated that district Collectors would be given powers to ensure availability of sand from nearby sand reaches for requirements in the districts concerned. He asked the officials to be stern against inter-district transportation of sand through lorries and directed them to seize the vehicles for any violation.

Stating that the officials should not target transportation of sand in bullock-carts and tractor-trolleys for local needs, he told them to be vigilant against movement of sand through tractors.

He asked the Collectors to ensure proper supplies of sand for government schemes by holding review meetings regularly.

Further, the Minister directed the officials to register cases against those maintaining sand dumps illegally and also check overloading of sand lorries by setting up weigh bridges wherever necessary and connecting them to a central website.

He told the Collectors to instruct mining department officials on the requirement of weigh bridges and their locations.

On robo-sand, the Minister said the government is planning to encourage its use and handover its production to the youth of Backward Classes.

The government would examine extending financial assistance to such youth, he noted.

Principal Secretary (Industries and Mines) Arvind Kumar, Managing Directory of Telangana State Mining Development Corporation Illambarthi and others participated.
