Lexus Takes Home Hardware in J.D. Power’s 2016 Initial Quality Study

Although there’s certainly plenty to be happy about in the 2016 J.D. Power Initial Quality Study, there’s also room for improvement.

We’re used to reporting about first-place finishes around these parts, so we’re not exactly impressed with Lexus’ seventh-place industry ranking in the study, which measures ownership experiences after 90 days. Granted, Lexus was only dinged in two categories — Overall Quality/Design and Features & Accessories Quality/Design — and received five out of five stars in the rest.

Lexus did take home two segment award wins in the study, as the GS F earned first place among large premium cars, and the CT 200h beat out the rest of the small premium cars. And the ES finished second among the compact premiums.

Furthermore, the Toyota Motor Corporations’s Lexus-producing Georgetown, Kentucky plant and Kyushu 2 Japan plant tied for the Platinum Plant Quality Award for “for producing models with the fewest defects or malfunctions,” according to the study.

So yeah, it’s not the first-place finish we’re looking for, but this year’s Study is certainly another testament about the high-quality products Lexus is putting out these days.
