Jamie Lynn Spears reflects on being a teenage mom 'I was a baby having a baby'

Jamie Lynn Spears is best known as the younger sibling of pop icon, Britney Spears, but the actress and singer made headlines herself when she announced she was expecting a baby in 2007 at the young age of 16.

The now-25-year-old country music singer said it was a point in her life that was really scary and it's hard to reflect on it and not become emotional.

"I remember being a little girl and all those emotions come back. Not just being pregnant, but telling your loved ones and going through all that, it's a lot of emotions involved," she explained. "You're just an innocent little girl, and then you look back on how far you came...it's bittersweet."

She continued, "Telling you're loved ones and going through all of that. It's a lot of emotions involved."

It was definitely a tumultuous time for the Spears family and she says she wasn't surprised by her family's reaction.

"My family's reaction was exactly what you expected it to be: very shocked, very scared for me...but it was all out of love. I was the baby of the family having a baby," she said. "When I told them I was pregnant, I think the best thing that they did was they supported me. They didn't just let me go do whatever I wanted, but they gave me the freedom to make my choices and grow up. I couldn't have a child and still have mom and dad making decisions for me."

She continued, "It was a good tough love...I wasn't going to use my age as an excuse. To be a mother is to be a mother, it doesn't matter what age you are."

Jamie Lynn has spent the last 8 years staying out of the spotlight and now she says she's ready to show the world how far she's come through her one-hour TLC special, When the Lights Go Out.

She says she wanted people to see her more than as just a child star or a teen mom and see what she's been up to. Jamie Lynn married in 2014 and has been raising her daughter, Maddie, 8, with her husband.
