T20 Blast: Glamorgan smash Surrey; Lancs hammer Worcestershire

Graham Wagg took 2-5 from just eight deliveries as Glamorgan thrashed Surrey by nine wickets at Sophia Gardens to extend their lead at the top of the Natwest T20 Blast South Group.

Dale Steyn (2-20) and Dean Cosker (2-23) also chipped in with a couple of wickets each as Glamorgan dismissed Surrey for just 110, with Rory Burns top scoring for the visitors with 22.

Opener David Lloyd fell for a duck as Glamorgan's reply got off to a shaky start but Colin Ingram (69 not out) and skipper Jacques Rudolph (40 not out) helped the hosts canter home with 25 balls to spare.

Former New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum smashed 87 from 57 balls to help Middlesex beat Kent Spitfires by 40 runs at Canterbury.

Dawid Malan had earlier cracked 60 off 34 balls to lay the foundations for Middlesex to reach a mammoth total of 210-6.

Fabian Cowdrey hit eight fours in a 42-ball knock of 71 but Toby Roland-Jones (3-23) and James Fuller (2-38) shared five wickets between them as the hosts finished on 170-7, 40 runs shy of the target.

Essex Eagles beat Hampshire by five wickets in the other South Group game after a fine bowling performance from Graham Napier helped the hosts restrict the visitors to 135-8 after 20 overs.

Ashar Zaidi scored 52 from 32 balls and Tom Westley chipped in with 27 as Essex cruised to victory with seven balls remaining.

In the North Group, England all-rounder Ben Stokes could only manage five runs after making his return from injury as a specialist batsman in Durham Jets' win against Yorkshire Vikings.

Stokes underwent knee surgery last month after he tore a cartilage in his left knee during England's first Test against Sri Lanka and was taking his first steps towards proving his fitness for England's first Test against Pakistan at Lord's on July 14.

Chris Rushworth took 3-14 as Durham dismissed Yorkshire for 134 and they reached 68-3 after 59 balls to claim a six-run Duckworth-Lewis victory after rain curtailed the game at Chester-le-Street.

Stephen Parry finished with figures of 5-13 as Lancashire Lightning rattled Worcestershire Rapids out for just 53 in a 96-run victory at Old Trafford.

Opener Alviro Peterson top-scored with 68 as Lancashire reached a modest total of 149-5 after their 20 overs. But Parry and Nathan Buck (3-12) tore through the visitors' batting card with Brett D'Oliveira (16) the only Worcestershire player to reach double figures.

Meanwhile, the Birmingham Bears went top of the North Group after a convincing eight-wicket win against the Leicestershire Foxes.

Umar Akmal was the Foxes' highest scorer with 31 runs from 33 deliveries as Leicestershire laboured to a total of 125-6 after 20 overs.

Birmingham skipper Ian Bell scored 36 not out but Laurie Evans (52 not out) stole the show hitting two fours and a six off the last three balls to bring up his half century and the win for the Bears with 27 balls remaining.

Elsewhere, Harry Gurney claimed 4-20 in Notts Outlaws' seven-wicket win over the Derbyshire Falcons.

After winning the toss and electing to field the hosts bowled Derbyshire out for 114, with Andre Russell (2-34) and Jake Ball (2-18) picking up a pair of wickets each.

Opener Riki Wessels (35 not out) was supported by Daniel Christian (38 not out), who hit a six to end the match in style, bringing Nottinghamshire home with 33 balls remaining.
