Armed robbery rocks Yavatmal

Yavatmal: An armed robbery in a posh area rocked Yavatmal on Thursday afternoon, with cops clueless about the miscreants till late in the evening
Complainant Pankaj Nanwani of Shivaji Nagar said three youths barged into his house at about 4pm on Thursday. They looted a gold mangalsutra worth Rs30,000 at gunpoint from his mother Mantrabai, who was taking a nap in the bedroom. The trio escaped from the spot on a motorbike bearing No.MH 29-Y 1438, which later proved to be fake.
Saransh (12), son of the house owner, was studying in the front room when the three robbers barged into the house. They moved to the bedroom, where Mantrabai (60) was resting. The three pointed revolvers at her and snatched a gold mangalsutra before fleeing on the bike. Saransh said two of them had covered their faces with scarves while he saw the third one.
The young boy later went out through the back door and alerted his mother’s sister, who resides in the adjoining house. They shouted for help and a few youths from the neighbourhood tried to chase the fleeing robbers, but could not do anything as they were threatened with a revolver.
Pankaj Nanwani is president of District Chemist and Druggist Association and a whole sale dealer of a pharmaceutical company. He lodged a complaint with Wadgaon Road police station. No arrest has been made so far.
Minister of state for home Dr Ranjit Patil, union minister of state for chemical fertilizers Hansraj Ahir and Amravati Range IG Sanjeevkumar Singhal visited the crime scene. Local crime branch chief Sanjay Deshmukh confirmed the dacoity and admitted no arrest has been made so far. SP Akhilesh Kumar Singh refused to talk to the media.
