Man held for brutal rape of minor in Motihari
MOTIHARI: Police on Friday arrested a youth who allegedly raped a 13-year-old girl in Bihar’s East Champaran district and returned four days later to wound her grievously by inserting a stick into her genitals.
Safiullah, belonging to a family of land owners, was arrested from Motihari. Sources said Safiullah’s parents had earlier been detained to put pressure on him to surrender.
The accused, in his late 20s, had stormed the girl’s house with his relatives, including his father, before dragging her out and brutalising her in front of her parents and neighbours on the road at Jamui village.
The girl, daughter of a daily-wage labourer, was then left for dead. The arrest came after members of different social organisations demonstrated and demanded arrest of the accused, financial help to the survivor and suspension of the local police station SHO.
After allegedly raping her on June 11, the accused waylaid her again after two days. But she managed to escape after injuring him. The accused returned on June 15 and brutalised her further. Protesters accused the police of failing to take action.
A medical test had been conducted only on Wednesday — 11days after she was raped. The report was allegedly doctored to establish that she wasn't assaulted at all. Police also dismissed the case as an affair, claiming that no evidence of sexual assault or injuries was found on the girl.
