National Park Service spots to visit from Texas to California, Wyoming to Washington

Share

The National Park Service celebrates its 100th birthday this year, which has put renewed focus on the 411 parks units.

The West is chock-a-block with “beauty spots” — think Yosemite, Yellowstone, the Tetons and more — but it also has a variety of places that help explain our national story—Port Chicago, for example, or Sand Creek. Not all of these places are home to proud moments in American history, but they are all part of an indoor and outdoor education that the park service provides.

And, of course, there are other entities that contribute to our enjoyment, including state parks and the Bureau of Land Management. Check out our properties near or around your destination.

Road trips: where to go and what to know

Here are the park service units in California, along with Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wyoming. To see parks outside of California and the West, go to www.nps.gov.
