PILIBHIT: Farmer Manmohan Singh who had been declared a “guarantor” to industrialist Vijay Mallya by the Bank of Baroda has alleged that he has been receiving threats to withdraw the defamation case he had filed against the bank on June 6.
On Friday, Manmohan Singh submitted a written prayer to district magistrate, Masoom Ali Sarvar, to protect him from the “conspiracy of bank officials, who had visited his farmhouse on June 17 to exert pressure on him and settle down the matter through amicable compromise”.

In December last year, the Mumbai regional office had identified Singh, a farmer from village Khajuria Naviram, under the circle of Bilsanda block of Pilibhit district, as a “guarantor” to liquor baron, Vijay Mallya. After this, the local Nand branch of the bank had frozen his savings account and operation of his crop loan account was also prohibited.
Singh told TOI, “The regional manager of BOB came to my farmhouse and warned me to withdraw the case against the bank.”
