Kopin Introduces CyberDisplay for Cell Phones

Taunton, MA-based Kopin Corp. has released the CyberDisplay 640C full-color VGA display. Measuring 0.38-in diagonal, the new active-matrix liquid crystal display is specifically targeted at current and next-generation handset designs.

The 640C employs Kopin's patented architecture, which delivers +2.7 or +3.3 VDC operation for logic and +3 VDC operation for video. The new display is a transmissive imaging device that displays information at 640 x 480 full-color resolution. Operation with color sequential technique, the 640C presents 307,200 full-color pixels for viewing.

Using a miniature lens in conjunction with an energy-efficient light-emitting diode (LED) backlight, the CyberDisplay 640C presents an optical image equivalent in size to a notebook monitor. The lens provides a wide degree field of view and the virtual image presented can be viewed seen in all lighting conditions.

The 640C employs twisted nematic liquid crystal. Through this technology, the product can provide 8-b full color and good contrast.
