Uber International C.V. is changing how users see surge pricing by not letting them see it at all.

Uber, Surge PricingUber’s new app eliminates the notifications that users would see letting them know that surge pricing is in effect. This is when high demand in an area causes the company to increase prices. It attract more drivers, but isn’t liked by passengers.

The only notification that Uber passengers will get not is that the area is facing “increased demand.” This notification will show up under the total fair for a trip, but doesn’t tell users how much pricing has increased.

“Instead of surge lightning bolts and pop-up screens, riders are given the actual fare before they request their ride,” the ride-hailing service said about the change. “There’s no complicated math and no surprises: passengers can just sit back and enjoy the ride.”
