KOLKATA: Former India custodian Abhijit Mondal will be East Bengal's new goalkeeping coach. He would join former Exeter City and Southampton defender Richard Dryden as two assistants for head coach Trevor Morgan.
A two-time I-League winner with Dempo SC, Abhijit played for East Bengal from 2012-2014. His appointment to the post ended speculation over former Asian All-Star goalkeeper Atanu Bhattacharya's return to the red-and-golds' coaching staff.
Atanu served the club as a goalkeeping coach during Morgan’s first stint from 2010 to 2013.

"Abhijit played under Morgan and they know each other well. We believe he's the right person to help our head coach," said a club official on Friday.
On the other hand, Dryden, who was Notts Country's caretaker manager, was handpicked by Morgan.
The towering defender had played for Exeter City from 1981 to 1991 and English Premier League side Southampton from 1996 to 2001. However, he was loaned out to various Championship (second division) sides in his last three seasons with Southampton.
The 47-year-old's first break in his managerial career came when he took up the reins of English lower division side Worcester City where he worked for three seasons before being sacked. He was appointed the caretaker manager for a brief period at Notts County last season.
East Bengal have also roped in former Dempo SC and Pune FC defender Calum Angus, apart from signing a one-year deal with left-back Deepak K, who had an impressive last season with Mohammedan Sporting.
Morgan is expected to kick off the team's practice in the first week of July.
