England at Euro 2016: Life through a lens with Sky Sports News HQ's Gemma Davies

Sky Sports News' producer Gemma Davies is based with the England squad during Euro 2016 and in the third instalment of her blog, she has a day at the races while Nick Collins realises fame has a price....

Since my last blog instalment, England have secured their place in the last 16 and for myself and the rest of the SSNHQ England team, that means a little bit longer in our new home of Chantilly, around 25 miles north of Paris.

When England gave their players a day off on Wednesday, we visited Chantilly racecourse on the off-chance that a couple of the squad might have had the same idea.

Roy Hodgson and his assistant Ray Lewington took a boat trip down the Seine in Paris, some of the players had a round of golf, whilst others chose to spend time with their families in Chantilly - but none fancied a day at the races.

Undeterred, we did a few 'lives' from the racetrack and showed Sky Sports News HQ viewers a taste of Chantilly (while we tasted the local ice cream).

We've had a rainy opening couple of weeks in France, but the sunshine came this week and we got the chance to make the most of our hotel balcony. Not for sunbathing - we use it to do lives with Nick Collins when we can't get to the team hotel.

We do our live broadcasts while watching the other Euro 2016 matches on iPads (two at a time this week as the Republic of Ireland v Italy clashed with Belgium v Sweden).

Nick often gets recognised when we're covering England and always stops for selfies and chats with supporters who approach him.

But his fame has now spread to mainland Europe - he spotted himself on a French TV show.

Unfortunately for Nick, the programme was 'Sporting Accidents' and it was the well-worn clip of him falling off a ladder outside Wembley whilst reporting live for SSNHQ three years ago!

While Nick didn't completely understand the French voiceover, he knew enough to realise he was on the French sporting equivalent of 'You've Been Framed'…
