PM Modi to discuss Smart City plans with Belagavi civic body
BELAGAVI: Belagavi City Corporation (BCC) has made all preparations to talk with prime minister Narendra Modi over video conference on Saturday, on the occasion of completing one year to the announcement of ‘smart city’ project by the central government. Meanwhile, BCC will be launching several works under the project.
PM Modi, on Saturday, will talk with the authorities of all 20 cities selected in first phase for an ambitious project.
He will discuss for two hours with the authorities about the project and watch 2 minutes video prepared by the city corporations.
Prime minister will speak to city corporation commissioner, mayor and councillors at 4pm. Video conference arrangements have been made in zilla panchayat office. Separate seating arrangements have been made for media persons. Speaking to the TOI, BCC commissioner G Prabhu said, necessary arrangements for video conference have been made and 2 minutes video prepared by BCC has been already uploaded on Youtube.
BCC will launch several works planned under ‘smart city’ project in various parts of the city on Saturday, in presence of district in-charge minister Ramesh Jarkiholi, mayor Sarita Patil and other leaders. Works like providing LPG pipeline connections, solid waste management unit and underground drainage will be given start at Ashok Circle at 10am.
Later, pact with BSNL for introducing Wi Fi hot spots in different parts of the city and GPS technology for the garbage transporting vehicles of city corporation will be signed at Basavaraj Kattimani Sabhagruha. Later, office of the ‘smart city’ project will be inaugurated near Tilakwadi police station. Besides, projects like constructing 40 community toilets and tree plantation along both sides of Kanabargi Road will be launched.

Belagavi is transforming global centre for aerospace components- Aequs:
Welcoming the initiative, Rajeev Kaul, Group CFO & MD of Aequs, SEZ in a release said Belagavi has been gradually transforming to a global centre for sourcing aerospace and precision machining components. Aequs headquarter at Belagavi, would continue bringing in new capabilities into its ecosystem and thereby transforming city as an aerospace and manufacturing hub of India.
Kaul said Aequs has aspired to make Belagavi as aerospace knowledge centre of India, thus Aequs would collaborate with technical institutes in the region to train young people and equip them with desired knowledge and capabilities to help them grow.
