Roofing sheets to shield Sahara Darwaja railway underpass
SURAT: General Manager of Western Railway (WR), GC Agarwal is learnt to have directed his officials to cover the roof of railway underpass at Sahara Darwaja with roofing sheets to prevent the leakage of filthy water flushed from the toilets of the moving train.
WR GM, GC Agarwal, who visited the Surat railway station along with the team of around 150 officers from Mumbai asked the Surat railway authorities to immediately take up the roofing of the exposed tracks at the Sahara Darwaja railway underpass for the larger interest of the people in the city.

The members of Surat Railway Station Development (SRSD) forum and the member of Passenger Service Committee (PSC), Rakesh Shah had made strong representation on the daily ordeal faced by tens of thousands of commuters at Sahara Darwaja railway underpass due to the leaking roof.
Talking to TOI, Rakesh Shah, member of PSC said, “The WR GM talked with the municipal commissioner over the phone and discussed about the box pushing of the railway underpass at Sahara Darwaja. He informed the commissioner about the roofing of the underpass on temporary basis”
Thousands of commuters and passers-by at the railway underpasses at Sahara Darwaja and railway station area have been facing problem from the last many years.
The railway tracks at Sahara Darwaja railway underpass are exposed and that thousands of commuters pass through on daily basis. The commuters have to literally stop whenever the trains pass through, to avoid the droppings from the toilets of the train.
