Tottenham consider improved offer for Dutch striker Vincent Janssen

Spurs made an offer of around £11million on Thursday night but the Dutch club are holding out for closer to £17m.

Press Association Sport understands Tottenham have already agreed personal terms with Janssen and are expected to come back with another bid.

Janssen was given permission to spend two days in London earlier this month and visited the club's training ground, meeting manager Mauricio Pochettino and discussing his plans for the future.

German side Wolfsburg have also expressed an interest to AZ and have spoken to the 22-year-old, but they are yet to rival Tottenham with an official offer.

Janssen's preferred destination is White Hart Lane, where he is attracted by the prospect of Champions League football next season.

It has also been made clear that while Harry Kane will remain Pochettino's number one striker, he would be given ample opportunity to impress, particularly in cup competitions.

Kane played in every one of Tottenham's Premier League matches last season and Pochettino wants more cover, as well as greater options off the bench.

Spurs have already bolstered their midfield after they confirmed the signing of Southampton midfielder Victor Wanyama on Thursday.

Janssen is one of Europe's most exciting young forwards, renowned for his energy, work rate and composure in front of goal.

He scored 27 goals in 34 matches in the Eredivisie last season and also found the net against England in Holland's 2-1 win at Wembley in March.

Wanyama spoke on Friday about his move to north London, where he will reunite with former Southampton manager Pochettino.

"It feels really good to be here and I'm really happy to get this chance. It's a good step for me and I think this is where I can achieve bigger things now," Wanyama said on the official Tottenham website.

"You can see the talent here and also you can see the manager. I think Spurs have made a giant step, they've always improved since the manager arrived here and I think the club can only get better, so hopefully there are good things ahead.

"It was easy for me to come here because I know how the manager is, I know he likes to work hard and he improves players as well. I thought it was a good opportunity for me to come here and I think I can improve as a player here.

"Nothing is impossible if you work hard. If we can achieve winning the Premier League then that would be my dream. That's my target, to win the Premier League or any trophy with the club."
