Hundreds of European players in the English Premier League and other professional soccer leagues, whom the EU membership allowed to easily sign for teams, could now be subjected to the FA regulations with which players around the world are selected from. It is a points-based system, decided mainly by the proportion of international matches a player has been selected for.
The rules might affect star players like Eden Hazard (Belgium), David De Gea (Spain), and Mesut Ozil (Germany).
There is also a Fifa rule that prohibits buying footballers who are between 16 and 18 years and outside of EU. That would leave out a lot of other young players too.
In the 2015-16 season of the premier league more than 400 European players were registered to play. The effect on them might not be felt so soon following the vote, yet the players will not have an legal right to live and work in the UK.
According to British media reports, Premiership, is broadcast to 730 million homes in 185 countries.
“332 players in England and Scotland would be threatened by Brexit.” a BBC report said.
