Films based on friends and their chemistry have seen a number of takers in the recent times.

Their chemistry lights up the silver screen, their antics have the audience in splits and their undying friendship melts many hearts. Bromance seems to be the flavour of the season. Be it friends going on a crazy fun ride, or colleagues helping each other through tough times, the camaraderie between boys has bowled over the audience. With more than hundred films to release in next one year, films like Daav Thayi Gayo Yaar, Fodi Laishu Yaar, Gandhi Ni Golmaal, Love Lagan Ne Locha, Aapne Toh Chhie Bindaas, 3G.com etc revel in the same theme.

An evergreen subject
Friendship, feel many, is one topic that resonates amongst people of all age and gender. And that is what makes it a hot property. Dushyant Patel, director of a recent film about three friends who land up in trouble and how they get out of it, says, “A story people can connect with, and entertains audience of all ages is what we should be looking for right now. And bromance is one theme that finds a connect with people in general as it's not only fun, but also has an emotional connect as well. Friendship is an eternal topic.”
Content’s the king
While an ageless theme like bromance does make sure that the audience enjoy the film, the story has to be good, feels director Vipul Mehta. He says, “Today there is no mathematics for a successful film. If you make a good film, it will work, irrespective of its subject. And I am sure that more films addressing different and unique subjects will be made in the future as content has become more important than the format. And there is audience for all kinds of films.”

Bring something new
Sailing on a hit formula is something every entertainment industry rides on. And films made on this theme might be getting caught in the same formula driven race, feel the industry insiders. Director and actor Shital Shah opines, “People have the tendency to follow the hit trend. Once if a movie on a storyline works at the BO, everyone wants to cash in on that formula. And I feel it's the most non-creative way of thinking in an extremely creative field of filmmaking and story-telling.”
Playing safe
While the industry is still in its transformation stage, and a number of filmmakers are braving all odds by making films, playing safe due to budget constraints looms large in the industry. Says Ishaan Randeria, “The budgets are still very tight for Gujarati filmmakers and people want to play safe. And that is why when any one formula works, everyone wants to stick to it thinking their ideas on the same line will also get audience support.”
Be it following the hit brigade, playing safe or reveling in an evergreen theme, bromance still strike a chord with the audience and it seems, friendship on the silver screen is here to stay.
