ACB arrests Davad village Sarpanch for taking Rs5,000 bribe

The anti-corruption bureau (ACB) sleuths on Thursday arrested Rangusinh Chauhan, sarpanch of Davad village, some 20km from Himatnagar town in Sabarkantha while taking a bribe of Rs 5,000 from a man seeking permission to grow water chestnut in the village pond.

Palanpur: The anti-corruption bureau (ACB) sleuths on Thursday arrested Rangusinh Chauhan, sarpanch of Davad village, some 20km from Himatnagar town in Sabarkantha while taking a bribe of Rs 5,000 from a man seeking permission to grow water chestnut in the village pond.
"Besides regular rent for cultivating water chestnuts, the sarpanch had demanded Rs 10,000 for awarding the contract to the complainant," said ACB inspector S P Kahar.
"The complainant, Sunil Chauhan of Mehtapura in Himatnagar had paid up Rs 5,000 on Monday. The remaining amount was to be given on Thursday."
Kahar said Sunil contacted ACB on Tuesday before giving the final instalment. Accordingly, a trap was laid and Chauhan was caught red-handed accepting Rs 5,000 bribe.
