David Beckham believes England are due a "big performance" in the last 16 at Euro 2016.

Speaking exclusively to Newsbeat, he says: "England have had a couple of tough games.

"They have dominated these games but we just need to put the ball at the back of the net a little bit more."

The former England captain says the whole family have been watching the tournament and says he recognises "there have been negatives throughout".

Fan violence in the host nation France has taken the focus away from the game.

"Nobody wants to see that and let's hope that we've seen the worst of it and it's over now," he explains to Newsbeat.

"Tournaments like this are so important that fans enjoy them.

"There's not just grown men and women, there are children there. "

England finished second in Group B behind Wales. They play Iceland next on Monday evening in Nice.

David Beckham says we've got every chance of doing well.

"We've got players that have got so much confidence," he says. "I think it's been a good tournament so far.

"Italy look strong, Spain look strong and obviously the host nation."

David Beckham was speaking at Buckingham Palace, where he attended the Queen's Young Leaders Awards.

The awards celebrate inspirational young people from around the world.

And David Beckham says he hopes his children are inspired by those awarded.

"What better people to look at than these young women and men," he explains.
