Lalbagh Palace to get a facelift
Indore: With district administration planning to give a facelift to the famous Lalbagh Palace, the whole premises of the heritage structure is set to get a revamp without any change in its original structure.
Authorities are of a view to develop the palace as a centre of art, culture and tourism. A team of senior officials from district administration thoroughly inspected the premises on Thursday morning and marked out areas which need a revamp.
The team was led by the Indore Divisional Commissioner Sanjay Dubey.
Speaking to media after inspection, the commissioner said that the process will be carried in two different phases. The first phase will include tender process for finalization of agencies that are going to carry out the revamp work. Implementation work will be done in the second phase of the project.
Dubey, during inspection, directed officials to initiate the project within seven days keeping intact the original architecture and outlook of the palace. The major areas on which the authorities are focussing include sewerage line, rain water drainage, shifting of RTO office from Rampur Kothi to Nayta Mundla and furniture covers, door and windows of the palace.
Moreover, areas outside the building will also be revamped with development of two gardens including a French model carpet garden.
Dubey also directed officials to start repair work of sewerage and rain water drain lines near the Lalbagh premises as it has been affecting base of the palace building. "Strict directives have been issued regarding shifting of RTO office before July 1," he said, adding that they are also planning to replace the old curtains and furniture covers with new curtains of the same design.
