PATIALA: Police registered a criminal case against over 100 agitating nurses of the Government Rajendra Hospital for blocking the Patiala-Sangrur highway. However, no arrest was made even though the blockade continued after the FIR was registered. Nurses and pharmacists, recruited on contract, were demanding regularization of their jobs. An official spokesman said the protesters' demand could not be accepted as the Supreme Court had ruled that contractual employees had no right to seek regularization.

Protest against 'poor' facilities in Bathinda:
Girl students of the University College of Nursing, running under Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS), Faridkot, on Thursday held a protest outside the hostel against inadequate facilities. They alleged that there no facility of power generator in the hostel, there was lack of clean drinking water and poor quality of meals were served to them in the mess.
There are 400 nursing students residing in the hostel. The nursing college principal H C L Rawat said, "The generator is not installed in any of the hostels of BFUHS. There are no generators in the hostels of the government medical colleges in Patiala or Amritsar. The RO water purifier is already installed in the hostel for clean drinking water."
