Schools across the city observed International Yoga Day by holding a session for their students

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s observed International Yoga Day on June 21 on the school premises. Yoga guru Girish from Nature Care Hospital enlightened the students about the importance of practicing yoga every day. The occasion was graced by P. Sandhya, director, Mega Art Projects and Events. Mr. Girish taught some asanas to students.

At International school, the day was marked by students and staff performing several asanas and a talk on the holistic benefits of yoga. The function was attended by school chairman Kakarla SubbaRao. It was overwhelming to see tiny tots dressed in white practicing yoga.

Gitanjali Senior School celebrated the second International Yoga Day attended by Minister of Textiles Raghuram as the chief guest. Also, Ashish Anshu, Pavani, Aditya and Yoga Venkatesh from Art of Living were present. Mr. Raghuram spoke about yoga given to the world by India. About 700 students, teachers and principal Maya Sukumaran attended the session.

Students of DDMS P. Obul Reddy Public School observed International Yoga Day by performing various asanas. School principal Anjali Razdan encouraged students to practice yoga as it improves concentration and self-awareness.

At Jubilee Hills Public School, yoga instructor J. Sandhya Rani taught ‘Pranayam’ to schoolchildren. It helps in improving children’s memory and concentration in class. She started the session by demonstrating some warm up exercises. Later, a separate session was conducted for the students of Class VII and VIII. She demonstrated various asanas and informed them about the benefits. School principal Varalakshmi said yoga helps in imbibing the value of discipline. She asked students to practice yoga every day and thanked the yoga instructor.

At Sister Nivedita School, students assembled at the school ground to attend a yoga session that began with an introduction to the science of yoga. The students were told about the perils of modern lifestyle like anxiety, disorders, depression, obesity, diabetes, etc. The simple and immediate solution to which is yoga. Director of the school, Harihara Prasad, addressed the students stressing on the need for enabling the present generation to make yoga a part of their daily life, to learn to heal themselves with yoga. Principal Jayanthi Venkataraman said that the school was the pioneer in introducing yoga classes, many years ago. Yoga instructor L. Chandana highlighted the importance of laughter yoga and fusion yoga and added that it enhances memory and concentration. A few asanas were demonstrated by the students on the occasion.

St. John’s celebrated International Yoga Day on its premises at Gunadala. Yoga instructor Mani guided the students from classes IV-X to perform yoga. She enlightened them about the importance of yoga to have physical as well as mental health. The school NCC cadets had a yoga session under the guidance of NCC Girls Cadet Inspector Urmila and M. Bhavitha, NCC Care Taker. T. Suman Thyagaraj, secretary and correspondent of the school, participated in a mass yoga session.

At Gitanjali Devakul, the day saw students presenting a Nukkad natak and a Burrakatha on the premises of D-Mart at K.P.H.B. Colony. Through these street plays, they appealed to the audience that they should refrain from eating junk food and adopt yoga as a daily routine to stay healthy and active. The plays were well received by the audience and parents.

DR. KKR Gowtham School, ECIL celebrated International Yoga Day. Yoga instructor Naresh demonstrated a few asanas.
