Students learn about benefits of practising yoga

With an aim to raise awareness of the many benefits of practising yoga among student community, a video on its importance was shown in classrooms as part of the celebrations held at Presidency School, Kasturinagar, Bengaluru. This programme was held in all branches of the Presidency group of schools. Yoga trainers of the respective unit schools began the session with a brief talk about the importance of the day followed by few warm-up breathing exercises, further moving to the usage of asanas. The session proceeded further with the singing of the Patanjali shloka and later, chanting of ‘om’. The students performed the asanas in the right spirit. To their encouragement and motivation, the director of Presidency Group of Schools, G. Thangadurai, also performed along with them.

Yogasanas taught

Students of Army Public School, ASC Centre, Bengaluru, celebrated the day with great zeal and enthusiasm. Members from Sri Ravishankar Ashram visited the school and conducted activities. They highlighted that yoga is a mental, physical and spiritual exercise that needs to be practised every day. An hour long yoga session was held.

Pranayama and suryanamaskar displays were the highlights of the celebrations held at Kautilya Integrated PU College, Mysuru. College vice-principal Nishanth A. Naidu told students to practise yoga every day to lead a healthy life. College principal L. Savitha said yoga helps improve concentration and memory and also in combating stress.

Various activities

Yoga expert H.B. Shivabasaiah spoke about the benefits of yoga and performed asanas at the celebrations held in Siddaganga Public School, Chandra Layout, Bengaluru. Students presented songs and dances and performed various asanas. School president L. Revanasiddaiah and principal Hamsa T.M. were present.

Breathing techniques

Students of Vasavi Vidyanikethan High School, Basavanagudi, Bengaluru, learnt about the various aspects of yoga. They were told that yoga helps them relax and breath control techniques were taught. The school has yoga classes for students.

Students take pledge

Students of Bunts’ Sangha RNS Vidyaniketan, Vijayanagar, Bengaluru, took the pledge to take yoga practice to great heights throughout their lifetime. Around 100 students presented various asanas and their peers learnt about its benefits.

Yoga demonstration

The importance of keeping the mind and body healthy through yoga was highlighted at the celebrations held at JSS Shri Manjunatheshwar Central School, Hubballi. Yoga expert Manjunath Bhavikatti demonstrated various asanas and said yoga improves one’s concentration. School principal Rajani Patil was present.

Investiture ceremony

The elected cabinet members of St. Claret School, Jalahalli, Bengaluru, were presented with sashes and batons at the investiture ceremony. B.C. Ravi Kumar, associate professor at GKVK, was the chief guest and he told new leaders to take up their duties with sincerity and commitment. School principal Joshi K.X. administered the oath to cabinet members.

Father’s Day

Students of pre-primary section of Podar Jumbo Kids, Magadi Road, Bengaluru, celebrated Father’s Day by participating in a programme ‘Papa KoChipko–Bonding Together’. The outdoor activity was an energising time as fathers and children combined to play football, tug of war, perform yoga, and dance and romp together. The indoor activities included bowling, building, aiming, creating, and searching.

Leaders take oath

The newly appointed leaders of the student council of Delhi Public School, Bangalore North, were told to set a rhythm that would take them to soaring heights by principal Manju Balasubramanyam at the investiture ceremony. Atheeq Anwar, chief administrative officer, KKECT, was the chief guest. He along with Shazia Maqsood, member, board of management, handed over the badges and house flags. Mr. Anwar emphasised the need of inculcating good leadership traits such as honesty, courage, perseverance, humility and above all the willingness to serve the society.

Orientation programme

An orientation programme for parents of kindergarten students of Deeksha High School was held. School principal Shanti Prasad spoke about efforts of the teachers in motivating every child to think independently, discriminate right from wrong and indulging in self analysis. Instead of taxing students with heavy textbooks, teachers should indulge in activity-oriented teaching. The session quelled the anxieties and answered doubts in the minds of parents.

Felicitation function

The toppers of SSLC, CBSE classes 10 and 12 were felicitated at a function held Mahila Seva Samaja School, Basavanagudi, Bengaluru. Theatre personality and journalist Prakash Belawadi was the chief guest. He gave away prizes consisting of a silver memento and cash prize of Rs. 9,000 each. He spoke about the need for the spirit of inquiry in students and how teachers can motivate students in developing this.

Awareness rally

As part of World Environment Day celebrations, students of Pragathi The School and PU College, Whitefield, Bengaluru, took out a rally to create awareness about environmental protection among residents in the neighbourhood. Holding placards and raising slogans, they urged residents to ‘think green…go green’. They also distributed 5,000 saplings near Bapuji Circle, Channasandra, VL Colony, and Patalamma Layout to bring back greenery to Kadugudi area.

Students of Appollo National Public School, Banashankari, Bengaluru, celebrated World Environment Day with a lot of enthusiasm. The oldest staff member, Nagamma, planted a sapling. Students went on a rally in the neighbourhood accompanied by the teachers. They also presented programmes around the theme ‘water conservation’.

Environment Week

Students of Ryan International School, Kundalahalli, Bengaluru, enthusiastically participated in various activities held as part of Environment Week celebrations. They came dressed in shades of green and made badges with the message ‘Green India, Clean India’. They also made paper pouches.

Results

Vishwa Venkateshwar International, Kengeri-Uttarahalli Main Road, Bengaluru, achieved 100 per cent pass results in the board examinations. Shivanag C. with 91 per cent emerged the school topper. At the KBC PU College, Kengeri-Uttarahalli Main Road, Bengaluru, the pass percentage was 94. Bhavana Vaishnav with 96 per cent topped the commerce stream, while Suchismita Das with 94 per cent topped science stream.
